The Antichrist: His Coming, Personality, and Works

And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:” — 2 Thessalonians 2:8

Introduction

The Bible warns repeatedly about a coming world ruler known as the Antichrist. He is called “that Wicked,” “the man of sin,” “the son of perdition,” and “the beast.” Though many antichrists and false teachers have already appeared throughout history, Scripture reveals that a final Antichrist will arise in the last days before the return of Jesus Christ.

The spirit of antichrist is already at work in the world, opposing Christ, denying truth, corrupting morality, and preparing mankind for global deception. Yet there is coming a specific man empowered by Satan himself who will lead the nations into rebellion against God. His rise will not be accidental. His kingdom will not merely be political. It will be spiritual, satanic, deceptive, and violent.

The Bible gives believers clear warnings concerning his coming, his personality, and his works so that the Church will not be ignorant concerning the last days.

I. The Coming of the Antichrist

A Time of Great Falling Away

The Antichrist will arise during a time of widespread spiritual rebellion. The world is already moving toward lawlessness, moral confusion, and rejection of biblical truth. Scripture declares:

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;” — 2 Thessalonians 2:3

The phrase “falling away” speaks of apostasy. Many who once claimed faith in God will depart from sound doctrine. Truth will be exchanged for deception. False religion will unite with worldly power to prepare the way for the Antichrist.

The world desires peace without righteousness, unity without truth, and religion without repentance. This spiritual climate is setting the stage for the appearance of the man of sin.

Satan’s False Messiah

The Antichrist will present himself as a savior to the world. Satan has always sought to imitate and oppose God. Jesus Christ is the true Messiah, while the Antichrist will be Satan’s counterfeit messiah.

Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,” — 2 Thessalonians 2:9

Just as Christ came in the power of the Father, the Antichrist will come in the power of Satan. He will deceive the nations through supernatural signs and false miracles. Many will follow him because they rejected the truth of God.

The Antichrist will not initially appear as a monster. He will appear intelligent, persuasive, diplomatic, and powerful. He will offer solutions to global crises. The world will see him as the answer to political instability, economic trouble, war, and religious division.

His Rise to World Power

The book of Daniel describes the Antichrist as a ruler who rises gradually but aggressively.

And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High…” — Daniel 7:25

The Antichrist will eventually gain authority over nations and peoples. Revelation describes his worldwide influence:

And power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.” — Revelation 13:7

This global system will include political authority, economic control, and religious worship. The Antichrist will demand loyalty that belongs only to God.

II. The Personality of the Antichrist

Proud and Blasphemous

The Antichrist will be filled with pride and arrogance. Satan fell because of pride, and the Antichrist will reflect the same rebellion against God.

And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god…” — Daniel 11:36

He will openly blaspheme God and exalt himself as divine. Paul warned:

Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” — 2 Thessalonians 2:4

The Antichrist will seek worship from the world. What began in Lucifer’s heart will reach its full expression in this final world ruler.

Deceptive and Manipulative

The Antichrist will be a master deceiver. He will use flattering words, political cunning, and spiritual deception.

And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand…” — Daniel 8:25

The world will believe his lies because mankind has rejected the truth of God. People who refuse the Gospel become vulnerable to deception.

And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:” — 2 Thessalonians 2:11

The Antichrist will manipulate emotions, fears, and desires. He will promise peace while preparing destruction.

Cruel and Merciless

Though he will appear peaceful at first, his true nature will eventually be revealed. He will persecute believers and wage war against those who refuse to worship him.

And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them…” — Revelation 13:7

The Antichrist will hate righteousness because he is empowered by Satan. His kingdom will be marked by oppression, violence, and tyranny.

The spirit of antichrist already works in governments, systems, and ideologies that oppose biblical truth and persecute the people of God.

III. The Works of the Antichrist

He Will Establish a Global System

The Antichrist will create a worldwide political and economic system unlike anything the world has ever seen.

And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark…” — Revelation 13:16

No one will be able to buy or sell without submission to his system. Economic control will become a tool for spiritual worship and political obedience.

The world is rapidly moving toward centralized systems, digital control, surveillance, and global dependence. These developments reveal how easily such a system could emerge.

He Will Promote False Worship

The Antichrist’s ultimate goal is worship. Satan has always desired worship that belongs to God alone.

And all the world wondered after the beast.” — Revelation 13:3

The false prophet will direct humanity to worship the Antichrist. A false religious system will unite the world in rebellion against the Lord Jesus Christ.

This coming deception shows the danger of religion without biblical truth. Any spiritual movement that removes Christ from His rightful place prepares the way for antichrist deception.

He Will Persecute the Saints

The Antichrist will unleash intense persecution against those who remain faithful to God.

And he shall wear out the saints of the most High…” — Daniel 7:25

Believers who refuse to compromise will face suffering, rejection, and death. Yet Scripture reveals that God will sustain His people even during the darkest hour.

The Antichrist may appear powerful for a season, but his authority is temporary and limited by God.

He Will Oppose Jesus Christ

The name “Antichrist” means both “against Christ” and “in place of Christ.” He will oppose everything Jesus represents.

Christ is truth; the Antichrist spreads lies.

Christ gives life; the Antichrist brings destruction.

Christ came in humility; the Antichrist comes in pride.

Christ leads men to the Father; the Antichrist leads men into judgment.

The entire kingdom of the Antichrist is built upon rebellion against the authority of Jesus Christ.

IV. The Destruction of the Antichrist

The Antichrist’s reign will not last forever. Jesus Christ will return in glory and destroy him completely.

And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet… These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.” — Revelation 19:20

The kingdoms of this world will fall before the King of kings. No power of Satan can stand against the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Antichrist may deceive the nations temporarily, but Christ will reign eternally.

A Warning to the Church

The rise of deception in the world should awaken believers to spiritual vigilance. Christians must remain grounded in Scripture, filled with the Holy Ghost, and faithful to Jesus Christ.

The spirit of antichrist is already visible wherever truth is rejected, sin is celebrated, and Christ is denied.

Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists…” — 1 John 2:18

The Church must not compromise with the world. Believers are called to discernment, holiness, and steadfast faith in these last days.

Conclusion

The Bible reveals the Antichrist as a coming world ruler empowered by Satan who will deceive nations, oppose God, persecute believers, and demand worship. His personality will be marked by pride, deception, blasphemy, and cruelty. His works will establish a global system of rebellion against Jesus Christ.

Yet believers must remember that the Antichrist is not the victor of prophecy. Jesus Christ is.

The rise of darkness only points to the soon return of the Lord. While the world moves toward deception, the Church must stand firmly upon the Word of God. The answer to the spirit of antichrist is unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, obedience to Scripture, and readiness for His return.

Jesus Christ will destroy the Antichrist, judge the wicked, and establish His eternal kingdom. Therefore, believers must remain watchful, faithful, and rooted in truth until the day the Lord appears in glory.
