“But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.” — Ephesians 2:13 (KJV)
There was a time when every believer was far from God—not because God had moved away from us, but because our sin had separated us from Him. No amount of good works, religion, or personal effort could ever bridge that gap. Yet Ephesians 2:13 offers one of the greatest promises in all of Scripture: through Jesus Christ, those who were once far away have been brought near.
Notice Paul does not say we were made near by our morality or our church attendance. He says we are made near by the blood of Christ. The sacrifice Jesus made on the cross accomplished what no person could ever accomplish on their own. His blood satisfied the righteous judgment of God against sin and opened the way for sinners to be reconciled to their Creator.
Sadly, many churches today emphasize God’s love while speaking very little about sin, repentance, or the cross. The result is a watered-down message that offers comfort without conversion. The Gospel is certainly a message of love, but it is God’s love demonstrated through the sacrifice of His Son. Without the cross, there is no forgiveness. Without the shedding of Christ’s blood, there is no salvation.
Our world continues to insist that there are many paths to God, but Scripture leaves no room for such thinking. Jesus Christ is the only way to the Father because He alone paid the price for our sins.
For those who have trusted Christ, Ephesians 2:13 is a reminder to live with gratitude and humility. We stand in God’s presence, not because we deserve it, but because Jesus made a way through His sacrifice.
For those who have never placed their faith in Christ, the invitation still stands. God has done everything necessary for you to be brought near. The question is whether you will receive His gift of salvation.
The distance has been removed. The invitation has been given. The way has been opened through the precious blood of Jesus Christ.
